So I wasn't able to keep up with the weekly blog post updates oops... Six kittens in a global pandemic plus a house move really keep you busy! However, I thought I'd do a quick post to introduce my four lovely keepers. Obviously as I only have two does in the litter, it was pretty clear that I would be keeping them but it took a while to choose my boys. Naming them was also really hard! Anyway, I won't waffle on...let's crack on with the introductions!
First up we have Roman Edesia, Goddess of Food. She is a Russian Topaz doe who enjoys running around like a nutter and getting up to mischief! With her gorgeous face and lovely temperament, I'm really looking forward to watching her grow up and hopefully have a litter in the future.
My second lovely girl is Roman Ceres, Goddess of Agriculture. She is my one and only Topaz keeper and I love her a lot! Her personality and temperament reminds me so much of her mum, Flora. She will always be one of the first to come and say hello but also enjoys a sit down and cuddle (albeit a brief one!). I actually love her so much that I'm planning to continue breeding Topaz alongside the Russian Topaz.
So there we have the girls, now onto my lovely boys! Firstly we have Roman Apollo, God of the Sun. I knew I needed a kitten named Apollo as I already have a (D)Iana which is Apollo's sister, the trouble I had initially was deciding who it was going to be. Apollo was the kitten with the blue sharpie on his tail and he didn't start standing out to me until he was about 5-6 weeks old. He was quite 'uninteresting' to put it bluntly and then suddenly started being the first to come and say hello. What really won me over was the fact that when I'd play and tickle him, he'd roll over and let me tickle his belly! None of the other kittens let me do this and it made me laugh every time. His gorgeous face then really sealed the deal and he was officially given his name.
Last but not least, we have Roman Mithras. Mithras was the kitten with the purple sharpie and I knew it was likely he would be staying very early on. He was one of the bravest, always being first to explore and showing the others how it was done! He doesn't sit still for five minutes but I've always said that I look for active personalities in my rats. I want them to act likes rats, not just sit and cuddle 24/7 (as nice as that is!).
So there we have it, my four keepers from my very first litter! It's been a joy raising these kittens and I'm so excited to do it again in the future. I'm really looking forward to watching these guys grow up and seeing what lovely adults they become. If they're anything like their mother I know they're going to be great!
I'll obviously also be watching them closely for any health issues and cut anyone out of my breeding plans if necessary. I'm fully aware breeding is not an easy thing to do and I'm very lucky that things all went smoothly first time. I'm sure my share of tears and heartbreak will come in the future! For now, I'm just going to enjoy my time with all my lovely boys and girls.
